Politicizing Tragedy

I have read several instances on the net and on Capitol Hill in which people have tried to blame the Bush administration for the tragedy on the Gulf Coast. As powerful as he may think he is, George W. Bush cannot control the weather and many Louisiana politicians and several Presidential administrations ignored the warnings from scientists that New Orleans was under threat. If there were any failures in the emergency procedures and services, they fall under the City and States responsibility, not the Bush administration. I have no fondness for the Bush Administration, but he is not to blame for this.

I know that the Bush Administration has capitalized greatly on 9-11, but we’re better than that, aren’t we? ;) This is a circumstance in which all differences should be laid aside. We aren’t “Red” and “Blue” states anymore.

We’re Purple. :)

About the only political thing one should keep in mind is that in the future we will need all the tax revenue we can get our hands on, ie. No More Tax Cuts For The Rich. FEMA is, at this moment and in the months to come, going to be spending billions of tax dollars getting the Gulf coast livable again, tax dollars that we will need to replace in the governmental budget which is already in debt, so it’s time to pony up rich people. The Middle and Lower class can’t afford it, you can. And the rest of us, encourage your senators and congressmen to vote down the repeal of the Estate Tax, among other tax cuts for the wealthy.

It’s Race Weekend!

I will be out at the California Speedway for the next three days getting my fill of roaring engines and burnt rubber smell. I’ll check in as I can.

Have a great Holiday everyone and best of luck to the #8, #6 and #38 Teams this Sunday!
